Lab 1 was about creating the main home page for our WCP portfolio. Before even starting to code my home page there was set up and clean up to do, mainly server set up and folder rearrangement. For this lab, I basically used the same layout and design as my DD Website but I had to retrieve it by backing up all my DD files from last year. For my navigation bar on the top, I used the <nav> tag and a bunch of CSS. If you click on any of the tabs it will take you to the section selected. For example, if you click on the "Labs" tab it will take you to all my Labs we have done so far. I used hyperlinks and href tags to do so. The whole idea of my homepage is a soccer theme since I love the sport a lot. If you go to my Labs it will take you to my labs and the background I used is a soccer ball to match the theme.
I did this by using Adobe Dreamweaver and used W3schools for reference. I also used the help of my peers. My steps to creating the homepage were to first brainstorm ideas on how it would look like then I gathered the important code tags that I wasn't familiar with and at last I executed it in my Lab 1. These skills are important to a web designer since they are necessary for managing a site and making a site professional. Knowing how to rearrange files and set up new sites is necessary for keeping a site clean and functioning. Having too many files to manage at once opens up the opportunity to make mistakes and break a website so it is best to break it up and work on it. A professional site looks appealing and communicates its purpose effectively. Knowing how big certain elements should be, where they should be positioned, color schemes, etc. can help a web designer achieve these things and knowing small add ons, such as animation and CSS libraries, only add on to the professional look of the site.
